I hope you weren’t expecting to find another list of virtues and benefits that carbohydrates provide. I’m sorry. There really just isn’t enough of them to even start with. I looked for them and found only one.
For a list, you need two. Your brain needs glucose to function. Or, so it’s thought.
Normally your brain is accustomed to using glucose for fuel, yet it has the ability to run on ketones, something done while you body is in a state of ketosis. According to Wikipedia, “While in ketosis, fat reserves are readily released and consumed. For this reason, ketosis is sometimes referred to as the body’s “fat burning” mode.“
Part of your brain needs glucose to function. It can’t operate on ketones. When your brain needs this glucose, though, it can get it from your liver and muscles. This is called gluconeogenesis.
According to Dr, Perlmutter, on page 23 of his best seller, Grain Brain, “the body can manufacture glucose from fat or protein, if necessary through a process called gluconeogenesis”. Dr. perlmutter also has stated in one of his youtube videos, that he believes that the human body can live without any carbohydrate consumption at all.
“Gluconeogenesis is a metabolic pathway that results in the generation of glucose from non-carbohydrate carbon substrates and takes place mainly in the liver and, to a lesser extent, in the cortex of the kidneys.”
“Most cells in the body can use both glucose and ketone bodies for fuel, and during ketosis, free fatty acids and glucose synthesis (gluconeogenesis) fuel the remainder.”
“Gluconeogenesis is often associated with ketosis. Gluconeogenesis is also a target of therapy for type 2 diabetes, such as the antidiabetic drug, metformin, which inhibits glucose formation and stimulates glucose uptake by cells.“
“Longer-term ketosis may result from fasting or staying on a low-carbohydrate diet, and deliberately induced ketosis serves as a medical intervention for intractable epilepsy. In glycolysis, higher levels of insulin promote storage of body fat and block release of fat from adipose tissues, while in ketosis, fat reserves are readily released and consumed. What the paragraphs above say basically is, your body can live with out consuming glucose and that’s why Dr Perlmutter suggests that one can live without any carbohydrates in their diet at all. This is a process my body is truly blessed to have, an unending source of what little glucose my brain and body needs. Actually, your body can do better without carbohydrates, as the studies in the previous paragraph have shown.
I can now rest with the comfort of knowing that I don’t ever have to put this poison, carbs, in my body again. Ketosis is a magic state in which my body exists with only minimum amount of carbohydrates in the diet, so I don’t have to feed my fat factory.
For the last two years, last 6 months in particular, I’ve reduced the glucose level in my blood to levels which, in turn, have reduced the inflammation and pain in my body to levels so low, it’s kept my weight 15 to 20 pounds below my recommended weight, given me more energy, kept my emotions level, dropped my need for medication to zilch, and although I hinted at this before, allowed me to sit at my desk and work for 16 to 20 hours a day for the last four days, while only taking short brakes to nibble a few snacks. I’ve had no meals in the past four days. I had a total of 12 hour of sleep over the last three nights. The point I’m trying to make is that, being on a ketogenic diet will allow the body to go through the stress that I’ve been putting mine through. This is something that can’t be done, on a diet high in carbohydrates. This is something that can’t be done on a carbohydrate diet at all, especially if those carbohydrates include grains. It’s that simple, carbs kill because sugar kills. And they’re best at killing energy. All this is due to there addictive nature. You need to break this addiction to free yourself from being their slave.
